CFD for 3D Flow Analysis

Pushbutton CFD®

This specialized 3D flow analysis software provides advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the Agile Engineering Design System®. Pushbutton CFD is fully integrated with AxCent®, Concepts NREC’s 3D turbomachinery geometry design program, to deliver seamless and efficient transfer of geometry and flow settings.  Created for designers by designers, Pushbutton CFD generates rapid design-level CFD calculations, with equally rapid setup and run times. With fully automatic preprocessing, CFD runs can be setup with just a few keystrokes. Designers can get a full 3D Navier-Stokes solution with no more effort than a streamline-curvature or throughflow solution.

Integrated preprocessing

Pushbutton CFD receives AxCent turbomachinery geometry without user intervention, and without the inconvenience of transferring complicated geometry to an external CFD analysis program.

Grid generation and grid topology

  • Memory and run-time efficient, structured grid approach
  • Advanced grid topologies (including O, H, C, OH and OH-C grid types)
  • State-of-the-art elliptic grid smoothing
  • Volute grid generation

Solver

  • 3D order AUSM TVD scheme
  • Advanced turbulence models include Spalart-Allmaras, k-epsilon, k-omega, and SST
  • Residual smoothing, local time stepping, and wall functions reduce solution time
  • Nonreflective boundary conditions
  • Real fluid properties
  • Parallel processing on shared memory (multicore) platforms
  • Parallel processing through message passing for distributed memory (clusters)
  • Fully compatible with several solver types, including Dawes and Denton
  • Quasi-3D throughflow and blade-to-blade solver
  • Efficient treatment of injection and extraction regions
  • Condensing flow capability

Integrated postprocessing

  • View all CFD results in AxCent with no file format conversions required
  • High-quality graphics through built-in visualization functions
  • 2D projected views
  • Automatic turbomachinery-specific postprocessing computations are shown in a flexible spreadsheet view for easy interpretation and comparison of results, such as pressure ratio and efficiency
