How to Improve Blade Surface Quality by Reducing Axis Reversals in MAX-PAC™

Presented by Christos Maninos, CAM Applications Engineer

Date: Wednesday, September 30, 2026

Time: 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM EDT

2026_Webinar_Axis Reversals Example

Axis reversals during blade machining can leave visible witness marks on the finished surface. When a CNC machine’s rotational axis changes direction while the cutter is engaged with the blade, even a small change in machine motion can affect surface quality.

In this webinar, we’ll walk through a practical, step-by-step approach to addressing this issue through tool path optimization in MAX-PAC™. Using a real machining example, we’ll demonstrate how to identify problematic axis reversals and make adjustments to create smoother machine motion and improve the resulting blade surface.

The demonstration will address head reversals and table reversals, showing how to recognize and reduce each within the tool path.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to identify machine axis reversals that can cause witness marks on blade surfaces
  • How to evaluate tool paths to pinpoint where problematic reversals occur
  • Practical techniques for smoothing or eliminating axis reversals through tool path optimization
  • A step-by-step workflow for addressing axis reversal issues in machining

Who Should Attend

  • CNC programmers
  • Manufacturing engineers
  • Machinists
